Joovy Big Caboose Stand-On Tandem Triple Stroller

The Joovy Big Caboose is the SUV of the Joovy lineup. It's a big triple stroller with a stand-on platform and bench at the back. It's perfect for family's that have twins and a toddler or for any parent who needs to take three young children out on their own.

I've had a bunch of people email me asking for info about the Big Caboose, so I did a bunch of research which is presented here. I hope that it helps you out when comparing triple stroller options.

What Makes the Joovy Big Caboose Unique

There are a few things that make the Big Caboose unique compared to other triple strollers on the market:

The Front Seats

The big feature here is the inclusion of two full size seats. Unlike many other strolls with two seats, the middle seat on the Joovy Big Caboose is full sized and roomy.

Each seat features:

• two recline positions
• an individual foot rest
• a removable child tray (2 cup holders each)
• a deluxe harness with reflective stitching (safety at night)
• a removable canopy (has ratcheting adjustment)

The two front seats will seat children aged 6 months and up to 40lbs and 44" tall.

As mentioned earlier, the Big Caboose can accommodate one OR two infant carriers at the same time thanks to the two included universal car seat adapters. The adapters are easy to install...just simply snap them right into the removable tray housings.

The Rear Stand-on Platform

The rear toddler platform is similar to other Joovy Caboose models. There is a platform for standing along with foam covered handles. If your toddler needs to rest, there is an adjustable padded seat. The seat also has a 3-point adjustable harness for safety.

The platform and seat can accommodate a child 2.5 years and up to 45 lbs. and 40" tall

It's worth noting that the rear seat canopy provides enough coverage to shade your toddler on the back.

Configuration Options

With the ability to have a combination of seats, infant carriers and the stand-on platform the Joovy Big Caboose is very customizable. Perfect for growing family's.

Storage

The Big Caboose has a large storage basket located under the seats. It has elastic sides similar to the other Caboose models. Since there is no "floor" on the Big Caboose you can just reach down in between the seats to access the basket. It makes for very convenient quick access and also makes a good catcher for anything your child in the rear seat might drop.

The second storage area is the mesh pockets on the rear of the seats. Perfect for keys, cell phones, wipes and other smaller items.

Stroller Construction

The stroller is based around a metal frame construction which is sturdy and lightweight. Very necessary for a stroller of this size.

The fabric is deluxe rip-stop nylon which is rugged and easy to wipe clean.

The plastic wheels feature sealed bearings for smooth rolling and easier pushing. There is also all wheel spring suspension for handling bumps and sidewalks.

With a triple stroller, the sealed bearings and all wheel suspension really make a difference - providing a smooth ride for both you (having to push the thing) and for your little passengers.

Some Minor Complaints

While the majority of the reviews on the Joovy Big Caboose are positive, there are a few issues that customers have pointed out.

The first is a lack of a cup holder on the handlebar for parents. This can be remedied by purchasing the Joovy Cool Essentials Parent Organizer which fits onto the handlebar. It contains two cup holders as well as storage pockets for wallets, keys, cell phones etc.

Another issue is that the rear platform is not intended for use when two infant carriers are installed (according to the manufacturer). Several parents have mentioned that the platform is still usable, but is cramped. Your toddler may have to lean forward when using the rear seat in this configuration.

The rest of the complaints are due to the size and maneuverability of the stroller in general. This is a triple stand on stroller. It is big. For a stroller of this size and capacity you definitely need some muscle to push it when fully loaded with three kids. You probably won't be steering this with two fingers of one hand with a coffee in the other! If the stroller loaded with three toddlers, expect a workout.

The other consideration is transportation. You'll want to take note of the size of the folder when folded (listed below) and make sure that you can fit it into your vehicle.
